Top Ten Favorite Places to Read

A Top Ten Meme from The Broke and The Bookish

This week's topic is open for catching up with previously missed topics.
My pick? The top ten best places to read . . .

1. Anywhere - as long as there's enough light.

2. In my papsan chair - this comfy bowl-shaped chair makes for cozy reading: not quite sitting and not quite reclining, but juuust right.

3. In the bathtub - what could be better than a warm soak in fragrant bubbles with a good book? The only downside is wrinkled skin and water that's too cold because I just really needed to finish this one chapter . . . page . . . line. Okay, one more chapter then I really have to get out.

4. Waiting in line at the bank/ doctor/ kids afterschool pick-up etc - I take a book with me everywhere, so go ahead and take your time . . . I don't mind waiting ;)

5. Outside - this could be anywhere from a patio to a dock to a beach, on a chair or blanket or towel. The details don't matter as long as the weather is pleasant and I have a book close by.

6. In The Library - I love loading up my arms with books and taking them to one of the big comfy chairs by the window for closer inspection. I'll go through the pile reading opening lines and applying the page 99 test. The ones that pass come home with me.

7. By a crackling fire - curled up on the couch with a cup of tea. Bliss!

8. In a cafe - with a large cafe mocha and a lemon-poppyseed muffin.

9. In the car/train/plane - it's all good as long as someone else is driving and it's not too bumpy or curvy.

10. In bed - this is where I do some of my best reading. Not only do I love to go to bed early and read until I can't keep my eyes open, but I often find myself wakeful between 2-4am so instead of tossing and turning, I read!

The only place I can't read is in a hammock -ugh- all that swaying makes me queasy.

Reading in the bathtub is my all time favorite place to read. Fab list :)

I have to agree with all of those, though the hammock I don't have a problem with. In bed rules! Except when I fall asleep too fast.

I cannot think of a place where I don't like reading. As long as there's light, like you said.

I'd "ditto!" all of those except for the bathtub -- too much potential for disaster there!

alexis - I know, right? And I can generally count on not getting interrupted either.

oreneta - yes, I could see that a hammock wouldn't faze you. You've probably got some sturdy sea legs :)

smellincoffee - I'll admit that I've had some pretty close calls . . .

Great list. I love reading in bed or outside in the sunshine. The papsan chair sounds intriguing.

Loni said...

I don't think I did this list...also because I can read just about anywhere and besides bed, I don't really have any favourite places. I like your reasons behind each location though.

I love your list. I like reading in the car, and in bed and outside while I'm watching my grandchildren. I mostly read in my recliner though.

helen - these chairs are so cool! I bought mine about 15 years ago and it's been my favorite reading chair ever since. I'm surprised I don't see more of them out there. It has a kind of a 60s feel to it, though, so maybe that's why.

loni - I almost stopped at #1. But then when I thought about it, there are some places that to me are all about reading.

kaye - yes, versatile is good, but my favorite chair is best of all.

by a crackling fire! definitely my favorite, also outside in fresh air. I always get a cafe mocha with my books at coffee shops too! nice list!

Funny, I LOVE to read in my hammock and never read in bed. Fun list.

Love the list, my favorite place is in bed. I like to read before falling to sleep too. Love your blog! I am now following you.

confessions - I love it when the reading atmosphere falls into place.

lee - ha! that is funny. We have a hammock and my husband never has to fight me for it. So it's win-win lol.

anne - thanks! yes, bed is good, isn't it? It's a great way to finish up the day.

Bath and bed are two of my favorite spots. I really wish I could read in the car...

Oh, I couldn't agree more with you on all of your choices! ^_^ They're so perfect for reading. And I've started bringing books with me no matter where I'm going just because you really never know just how long of a wait you have. It's better to have something on hand to pass the time. ^_^

Trish, I just tagged you for this "four things" meme....

MY FOUR THINGS MEME

two bibliomaniacs - yeah, it took me a little while, but now I can read like a champ in the car. lol

DJL - books everywhere is the key! I love it.

laurel - oh, wow, okay thanks. I'll be right over to check it out.

I could never read in the bathroom period...LOL (just me I know, as many people do).

My favorites are in bed and on public transport. For some reason I love reading on trains, subways, and buses, but I can't read in cars. Also, fire+tea+good book = heaven!

I love to read in the bath too. There really is nothing more relaxing than soaking in bubbles with your book. I even top up the hot water when I want to get to the end of a chapter. Sometimes I will have a cheeky wee glass of wine too.

One of the things I loved about travelling for work was reading on the train. There is just something different about it. Plus reading on the plane takes my mind off the fact that I terrified out my mind (sometimes it even works).

I also read a little in bed every night. Helps me to sleep and when I can't I always reach for my book.

The only thing I would add is sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of tea and toast. It's always so quiet in there. I love it.

Ooh, the papasan chair. Nice choice. I had one of those in high school. Definitely great for cuddling up and reading.

Your entire list makes me feel all snuggly and warm. I do most of my reading on the couch, which is kind of uncomfortable. :p

diane - that's funny! You're missing out on something good, though.

dani - yes, if someone else is driving, there's really nothing better to do, so . . .

Trish said...

karen - I've done the warm-water top-up and the glass of wine too ;) so nice!

coucpotatocritic - you did!? I have yet to meet anyone who has or had one. that's so cool. So you know what I'm talking about when I say how cozy they are.

Skye said...

Lol. When I read on my back I fall asleep and I can't read on my stomach because it's not comfortable.Papsan chairs look so comfy, I bet I could read really comfortably in one.

Love the blog. I'm a new follower. I love all these places as well, especially the bathtub and outdoors. I hate when you go to read outside, and then it just doesn't work out because of wind or whatever.

Here is my list

Thanks for dropping by my blog.

I had fun making my list of hilarious book titles this week.

It sounds like you can read just about anywhere. Can you really read in the car? That's the one that makes me sick.

Tracy said...

Most of those I agree with. In front of a crackling fire is my favourite, though I can't read in bed! Not unless I sit up, in which case I may as well not be in bed. And I can't take my eyes off the road to read anything in a car - makes me carsick.

Trish said...

skye - it's all about pillow placement when one is reading in bed, and falling asleep is one of the blissful results! :)

lbc - thanks! yes, now that you mention it, wind and bugs are enough to drive me inside.

anne - you're welcome. And, yes, if we're driving along on the highway at a steady speed.

tracy - crackling fire is lovely, isn't it? especially if the weather is terrible outside.
