Cooking Notes, Reading Notes


The first scents of fall. Apples stewing on my stovetop with a touch of brown sugar and a piece of ginger root. Add some oatmeal and a cup of coffee tomorrow morning and breakfast will be off the charts.

I'm trying to finish this book Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving while my apples are stewing and although I thought I was into it, I'm just not. The interactions between Ben and Trev are sweet and funny and different, but I don't like any of the other characters and I'd like them all to just go away. I'm hanging on for now, but this book is on notice. I might just have to put it down and move on. We'll see. In the mean time, my house smells great.

I hope the book gets good fast of that you can move on guilt free. I'm working on that myself. As for the apples, Sounds like a heavenly smell!

I can practically smell your photo!! Hate feeling that way about a book, especially when I've already spent a bit of time on it... but am usually happier when I decide to set it aside (and I've been doing a lot of that lately). Go ahead and give yourself permission ;-)

The warm apple smell has dissipated but breakfast this morning was delicious! The book, ugh, I think I will have to retire it and pick up something else.

We're not quite there yet. I thought at first that the forecast was heading into appleishness, but now I see it's back to the 30s next week. Watermelon instead then. Enjoy!

you could always cook some rhubarb in with the apple ... that is what I used to do back in my Canada days ... the scent feels so autumnal ...

Buried - Watermelons have been a staple in my kitchen this summer. I'm not usually a fan but the heat this year has given me reason to love the crisp watery wedges.

Connie - yes! they were pretty tart but nothing a little brown sugar didn't fix.

Anne - Rhubarb would be a great addition too. Apples are really so versatile, aren't they?
