Saturday Snapshot - gourds!

These gourds are from our garden -from the compost pile actually- and are probably second or third generation sprouting from the seeds of previous seasons' discards. I bought some decorative gourds a few years ago and haven't had to buy any since. As long as I keep throwing the old ones on the compost they keep coming back every year. The pumpkin, though, is from the farmer's market and was carved up into a jack-o-lantern for Halloween.

We didn't get many trick-or-treaters on account of all the rain. Thanks a lot Sandy. Now our garden's a mess. No serious damage, just a mess.

That first grouping looks great. I love the different sizes, shapes and textures.

That happens on our compost pile too. We didn't even carve a pumpkin this year and we ran out of candy, in spite of the cold and the rain. Here's Mine

Very artfully displayed! I do love the colors and shapes.

I never get any Trick or Treaters! I am starting to take it personally...lol

I imagine the kids whispering: There's the Witch House!

Actually, there are only three kids living in the immediate neighborhood and I suspect that their parents are very protective of where they go, etc.

Thanks for sharing...and here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST

OOh, I love gourds! How nice that they keep growing. I've tried that with old pumpkins but they never seem to produce anything beside the vine.

Love that brilliant orange color.

The joys of Halloween and Fall. Very nice selections of the gourds. The bitter melons in the Philippines are classified under gourd also and they are oblong.

Lovely colorful gourds! We used to have peas that would grow up year after year without replanting. I was sad when they stopped growing. I should really plant some more next year instead of zucchini, which always sounds like a good idea, but I get tired of them quickly.

I like your gourds. I grew some last year, and they have sat in my kitchen looking pretty and drying out. I put them on my blog a few weeks ago with some knitted pumpkins. They don't look as good as yours though.

No trick or treaters? What are you going to do with all that unclaimed candy?
If you have any excess O Henry bars, please send them to me, I'm an addict!

We watched Sandy's progress with great interest and concern.

One of our good friend's was in NY for work that week - holed up in a Lower Manhatten hotel bar with no electricity watching the building sway around them!

Glad you all survived it okay :-)

I may have to see if I can can grow gourds! It would be so lovely to have automatic Fall decorations each year :)

So sorry about your garden but glad you are safe. Love the gourds! We have a lady in our town who makes beautiful gourd creations.

Love that selection of gourds! Lucky you to have them selfseed from the compost... when we bought our house, the previous owner had composted a lot of mint... and yes, it has self-seeded, all over the entire lawn. Good thing I'm not too worried about a "perfect" lawn ;)

I like the gourds and that is neat that they are growing from old scenes. Nice traditional pumpkin too. Glad you didn't have too much damage from Sandy.

Great fall photos. I love that you're growing gourds accidentally.

I get compost pile gourds too! I love the surprise. This year I only got the little orange ones. I haven't had the green ones in a few years.
