Book Intro Tuesday

This week I'm reading Julian Barnes' newest book Through the Window, a collection of essays on books and authors and the art of writing and translating. A must for any bibliophile!

Here is the introduction.

Preface: A Life With Books

I have lived in books, for books, by and with books; in recent years, I have been fortunate enough to be able live from books. And it was through books that I first realized there were other worlds beyond my own; first imagined what it might be like to be another person; first encountered that deeply intimate bond make when a writer's voice gets inside a reader's head. I was perhaps lucky that for the first ten years of my like there was no competition from television; and when one finally arrived into the household, it was under the strict control of my parents.

This book definitely belongs on my wish list! The Sense of an Ending was one of my favorites last year.

I can relate to that part about living without competition from television. By the time we had one, I was thoroughly engaged in the bookish world.

Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

Exactly like my life. I too lived without competition from television for the first ten years exactly and this kind of life - with books - is totally wonderful. Going on my TBR. Thanks for sharing

I'll wait to see your thoughts on this. I've been turned off before by books about reading, as if there's a right way to do it. Here's Mine
