The sum total of this summer's green bean harvest. All is not lost, though. We did get an abundance of lettuce, cucumbers, herbs and tomatoes. Salad anyone?

Like you, we had lettuce at the beginning of the summer. Then the tomatoes were the only thing to survive through the summer. They were weird though, because we keep getting occasional tomatoes but never a bumper crop. Oh well. Next summer. Here's Mine
Rabbits! They kept eating everything green, especially the beans. We wised up with the lettuce and placed a wire cage over those but were too late with saving the beans. Oh well, next year.
They still look good! And your garden looks in far better condition than mine (once it was just tomatoes left I really let the weeds go). Definitely sounds like you had some good salad material though!
I had to laugh - my own thumb is blacker than black - and then you add rabbits, squirrels, birds plus possum, rats and who knows what else. Who can grow anything?
Yes, rabbits! I grew beans successfully for 20 years... and then the bunnies started eating them. Why now? I have no idea. So this year I put up a fence, and a hail storm in July wiped out every last plant. I replanted but they grew poorly in the 100 degree heat and I got maybe 6 beans! Some years you just can't win.

Last time I tried to grow beans my harvest was about that big too.
Why did the beans not survive when other veggies did? Poor lone green bean plant:)

I had lettuces (some of them grew again after I cut them) and my herbs were fine, but the beans were drowned! My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/DncFP

Last time I had a garden, we had a lot of tomatoes and zucchini.

Isn't it funny how gardens grow sometimes? At least you had some other veggies -- better luck with the beans next year!

beans, one of the MOST nutritious things in any garden...
my dad built a chicken wire 'slope' for them to grow up along, the green and the yellow... worked for peas and cukes, too
