The Reading Room by Carl Larsson 1909

I so love this painting. It feels quiet in a way that life now doesn't even if we are reading. There are no 'devices' in that room. Only books and a globe to maybe look up where your book is taking you. I wonder about those two open books - did she begin them and decide to go back later? Did the one in her hands appeal to her more? I love that table full of books just beside her.

That's so true. No devices! It tells of a much gentler and more thoughtful time. Yes, all those books on the table - I wonder what all that is about?
