Haunting of Hill House and Jamaica Inn are both on my RIP reading list this month - can't wait.
Book Thief, in all its weepy fantasticness, I read over the summer.
Tropic of Cancer is for another time.

Okay, now you've made me curious and I don't read your blog often enough to know the answers. Do you live in Europe and finding an English book store was a rare opportunity? Or do were you just blown away with the selection here?
My daughter leaves for Paris in two weeks and we were just talking about this book store. I told her to try to turn in the English-language books she is taking with her for ones she hasn't read. She loves to read and it may be a long three months with only a few books.
dizzy - only four because I had to find space in my baggage. I could have bought more, but airlines don't take kindly to heavy suitcases. Even these four, though, are a nice memento of my time there.
paulita - I live in Canada and was visiting Paris last spring. I knew I wanted to stop into Shakespeare and Company from all that I had read about its long history (it was also nice to have that hub of English language to retreat to as I don't speak much French.) They have a great selection of new and used books, a lovely view of the Seine and Notre Dame, and a cafe next door where you can sit down with your purchases over a cafe-au-lait. If your daughter is a reader, I would highly recommend she visit there while in Paris. It's a fabulous little bookshop.

mary - apparently there's another English language bookshop in Paris, too, but I just didn't have enough time to seek it out.

That must have taken a lot of discipline to choose just four! They look like good ones.
I read Jamaica Inn a long, long, LONG time ago....when I was young! LOL

That looks like a great store to visit, and you brought home a nice little selection. I really liked the picture with the bookshelves and the piles of books in front of them. Feels a bit like our home at the moment :-)

mostraum - yes, the piles of books lol I'm always curious about the ones at the bottom of the pile. When was the last time they saw the light of day? I'd love to investigate . . .
I need to get back to Paris. (And The Book Thief is a wonderful book!) Looks like a lovely shopping trip.

Oh, that is so neat! I've always wondered what it looked like. It's a must-visit place for me if I ever get to Paris.
I would get lost in a bookstore like that. It would take hours to find me and drag me out!

Ever since reading about this bookstore in Hemingway's A Moveable Feast, I've wanted to visit Paris. So jealous! :)
I hope you get a chance to go! It was really so much fun to see the store after having read so much about its history. A Moveable Feast was a fantastic book, wasn't it?
