War and Peace - What?

I know! I finally took the plunge and purchased a brand new copy of War and Peace translated by Pevear and Volokhonsky, the same folks who did the version of Anna Karenina I read and LOVED last year. Will this be the same transcendent experience? One can only hope.

I've never tried to tackle "War and Peace." Good luck to you!

Good luck! I bought that translation in hardcover when it first came out, but haven't read it yet. It's so bulky, I may end up buying the kindle version when I'm actually ready to read it ;-)

Daisy - thanks! I'll need some patience too.

JoAnn - yes, I'm a little concerned with the bulk of the thing. It weighs over 2 pounds!

I've been wanting to read this too! It is definitely a book I want to read along with Les Mis. In the case of Les Mis, I have a feeling that I will like the book better than the movie. They are daunting--but I think just getting started is the hardest part.

I bought that same edition a few years ago, and after it sat on the shelf for a while, I realized I was never going to read it, so it was donated to the library. :<) Good luck.

Heidi - Getting started IS the hardest part! I think it's also important to give oneself time.

Nan - thanks! I'm going to need it. I'm looking forward to reading it but I'm also a little bit scared.
