Considering yourself a serious reader doesn't mean you can't read light books. Loving to read means you sometimes like to turn your head off. Reading is not about being able to recite passages from Camus by memory. Loving young adult novels well past adolescence isn't a sign of stunted maturity or intelligence. The most important thing about reading is not the level of sophistication of the books on your shelf. There is no prerequisite reading regimen for being a bookworm.

So true. Hope you aren't being "accused" by anyone of not being a true book lover. Thick tomes of books have their place, but imagine how boring we'd all be if that's all we read. We can't all be Stephen Hawking. Here's Mine

comics and graphic novels are included as 'reading', they're how many newcomers get to understand the language, reinforced by imagery :)

Paulita - no, not recently anyway. I'm all about variety, and if someone happens upon me while I'm reading a cheap novel then so be it.

LW - I love comics and graphic novels! I'm glad they're as mainstream as they are. There's something particularly absorbing in reading a story that is accompanied by well drawn illustrations.
