Two Steinbecks and a Twain! And look how handsome they are. I can't believe anyone would even give these up.
(My teapot is making a regular appearance now that the weather is getting chilly . . .)
And these.
They look brand new! I haven't even read the first one yet so I'm not really sure what I'm getting myself into by buying all three. But hey, they've been on my radar for a while and the price was right, so. . .
I think I'll wait until winter when I can really settle down for some serious reading in front of the fire. I hope they're good.
Moving on . . .
Okay so, Shogun is for son21 because he was looking for a copy. This one's a discarded library book that was only checked out once five years ago. What? I know! It's barely been opened. Too bad about the label damage, though. Why do library stickers have to be so gluey? Anywhoo, then we have One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Solzhenitsyn because I just can't keep my hands off those tragic Russians. And Evelyn Waugh! How cool were the 1920s? If I couldn't live during the Jazz Age then reading about it is the next best thing. Decline and Fall is his first book and it's supposed to be quite witty. Then I grabbed a copy of Alice Hoffman's Property Of because I loved her newest book The Dovekeepers, and this being her first book means of course I have to read it too. Then, lastly, there's Rhoda Janzen's Mennonite in a Little Black Dress because it sounds so quirky and funny and who could pass up something like that.
So there it is. A weekend well spent, I'd say.

It looks like you had a Steinbeck weekend! I had a Dostoevsky Sunday--I finally ordered two of his books, Crime and Punishment and The Brother's Karamazov. I'll post a picture when they come in. I bought The Dovekeepers this weekend at Barnes and Noble. I found it on the bargain table for $5.98.
I think you'll like Kate Morton--I've read the first two books. Distant Hours is the one I need to read next.
Yes, I love Steinbeck! Dostoevsky is excellent too. I can't wait to hear what you think about those two books.
I'm glad to hear you like Kate Morton. If you like historic fiction as much as I do I think you'll really like the Dovekeepers too.
I would consider this a coup - far more satisfying than any clothes shopping ever could be!
I LOVE Kate Morton, just finished her new novel, to be published next month: The Secret Keeper, a great great novel!
