Saturday Snapshot - Dogwood

I wasn't aware dogwoods grew in Ontario until I stumbled upon this fine specimen a couple of weeks ago. After living in North Carolina for eleven years it always warms my heart to see a dogwood tree in full bloom.

SO beautiful! I have only ever seen white dogwoods in person, I'd love to see pink!

That is lovely. The shading on the petals is so delicate.

This is lovely, the way the flowers are arranged it looks like a painting. Was this taken from above? Beautiful.

The lighting was perfect to really make the colors pop.

Dogwoods are really beautiful. This one seems especially pretty. Hope you enjoying living in Canada. I would love to visit there.

I have a pink dogwood like this that has been very spare with giving flowers recently. Beautiful shot!

These are lovely, with the pink tips fading into white in the centre. A beautiful close-up.

It is always nice to find something that reminds you of home, even in a new home and place!

I do love the way certain flowers tap into that emotional place and remind us of home.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful dogwood...I think of seeing them when I visited our nearby national park, Yosemite in my childhood.

Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST

What a nice surprise for you to 'happen upon' ... I love dogwood and have a couple planted on the perimeter of the yard just under the cover of the high trees. Now, if the deer will only let them get some size to them! Your photo gives me something to hope for!

And... what are the blue flowers beneath?

I love dogwood blossoms. We can't grow them in Wyoming, but I wish we could. So pretty!

We had a dogwood tree in the front yard when I grew up. I don't see many now, or maybe I don't recognize them. Here's Mine

Blooming trees are always so beautiful--though usually fleeting! Great you captured a picture.

I love dogwood. When we lived in Michigan we used todrive to Birmingham,Alabama and visit one of our friends during Easter. Around her house and the surrounding area and around the church had dogwood in full bloom, in white and pink. The flowers look so clear.

There are a few dogwood here in Napa Valley.

How pretty! I guess I'd forgotten that Dogwood blossoms are pink. Glad you found one up there in the frozen north. :)

Nature continually amazes me. The color is so soft, gentle, and striking at the same time. I am more familiar with the white dogwood flower. This pink is splendid!

Wow! No kidding, it's gorgeous. I know they grow here in Ontario but only in special sheltered places. I've never seen one in bloom. Where was this, if you don't mind my asking?

Trish said...

@ Mazz - yes, it was a low branch so I was able to stand over it.

@ Susan - I'm not sure what the blue flowers are. Anyone else know?

@ Diana - this was taken at Niagara-on-the-Lake which has a pretty mild 'micro-climate' all year round.

I never would have known that those were dogwood flowers! (Makes me think of the movie "American President.") :)

These are beautiful. The dogwood we get here in Alberta are just shrubs, no flowers.

One of my favorite flowering trees! They were just beautiful this year.

Dogwoods are so very pretty! And are those bluebells in the corner? The pink and blue look good together, anyway.

thanks for stopping by my snapshot

neat! i did not know that, either

the pacific dogwood is british columbia's provincial flower...

ontario's flower, the trillium, grows in bc as well

So that's what a dogwood looks like! Here in the UK we hear about then, but I've never been quite certain what was meant.

You could sell that photo to a greeting card company it's so perfect and beautiful. Would be best with a scratch-and-sniff feature built in.
All the best to you, from a fellow Ontarian.

Nice pic. I'm not sure if we have them in our part of Ontario. I think they are more in the south of the province. Thanks for visiting my snapshot.
