Back to Reality

And what did I end up reading during my travels?

Nothing.

I made a lame attempt at breaking into my carefully chosen thin, small, traveling books while dealing with jet lag, but they didn't take. Berlin is just too interesting, and the towns and countryside of Northern Germany too beautiful to spend any time with my nose in a book. And Paris? Forget about it. I spent my entire time running from one jaw-droppingly beautiful chruch/statue/monument/park/bridge/museum to another and just gawked at the splendor of it all. I was totally flattened at the enormity of Notre Dame. The beauty of the Luxembourg Gardens blew me away. I was rendered speechless while walking through Saint Sulpice. The enormous cascading fountain and monument at Place Saint Michel gave me a tremendous thrill. And the Louvre was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I took pictures here and there but they just don't do any of it justice.

Welcome back! Your trip sounds wonderful!

I can understand not having time to read whilst sightseeing, but what about the flights? I can read a whole normal novel on a US-Eiurope flight and read the whole of Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything longhaul to Auckland.

tracy - I have a hard time staying awake on flights, which is good AND bad! I could get a lot of reading done, but I just can't seem to keep my eyes open.

blue moon - thanks! and yes, pictures will be coming soon.

Trish - I can't sleep on planes! If I ever do manage to doze off a little, it makes me feel ill when I wake up - so I read to keep myself fully awake, even if it's long haul to the Antipodes.

Sounds like a lovely trip and a break from reading can be a good thing.

I want to see pictures! :)

julie - yes it sure was. I've been going through my pictures and reliving it all.

tracy - ohh, that doesn't sound like fun at all! My sleeps are never very satisfying, but it does help move time along. I don't think I could do a really long haul, though. Anything further than Europe and I'd be too sore and stiff.

tiny library - yes, so true.
