Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout

I don't mind a heavy story but this is more Days of Our Lives for retirees than anything else. I don't know, maybe I'm just not getting it. I keep hearing good reviews for this book, and it did win a pulitzer prize, but all I'm reading is a collection of short interrelated stories of old people gossiping and bickering. Is there anything hopeful or satisfying at the end? I'm curious enough to keep reading, but part of me just wants to DNF the whole thing.

Go with your gut. Getting a pulitzer...I don't buy into those things. There are so many "good" books that i just dont' like.

Yeah, and last night my gut finally said, Enough! There was just too much about this whole story that was bugging me. So, with about sixty pages to go, I closed it up and put it back on the shelf.
