But then anyone who's worth anything reads just what he likes, as the mood takes him, and with extravagant enthusiasm.

Hmmm... I wish this was me. I wish I could read what I want when the mood takes me. But I'm in law school. Soo... that's a no.

One day.

Yes, time isn't always on the reader's side, unfortunately. I like the part about 'extravagant enthusiasm' though.

Trish-- you find the best quotes! Just this morning, I was thinking about how much I enjoy participating in read-a-longs, but that I could never sign-up for more than a few because it would stifle my "extravagant enthusiasm." Okay, that's not precisely how the conversation played out in my head. What luck, though, that I stopped over here and saw that Woolf had explained the idea so perfectly.

My thoughts exactly! So much of my enjoyment of reading is spontaneity. I'll dabble in a bit of structure here and there, but only the kind that will work with what I was going to read anyway, read-a-longs and challenges and such.

Love this quote. It's how I read!

"extravagant enthusiasm" -- life in general might be approached this way as well. Lovely quote.
